I just recently heard about the collected drawings of Bruce Bairnsfather who served in the British Army in France in World War One. Now that I own a book of his art work from the front lines in , the first thing that comes to mind is "Willie and Joe" by Bill Mauldin who became so well known for his drawings of fictional GIs in World War Two/5(14).
